Accounting is the work of recording what happened in the business and reporting it in a form people can rely on. Financial services is a much wider umbrella that covers banking, lending, investing, insurance and advice. When we say financial accounting services, we mean the middle ground most companies need: turning transactions into statements, budgets, forecasts and controls the owners can actually manage by.

The usual split is banking, investment and insurance. Banks hold deposits, move payments and lend. Investment firms manage portfolios and trades. Insurers price and carry risk. None of them will tell you whether your margins are slipping or your cash runs short in March. That's where accounting and CFO advisory come in, sitting alongside those providers and giving you numbers you can bring to them.

In our case, we close the books monthly, produce statements leadership will read, set up controls, build budgets and forecasts, and explain what changed and why. For larger clients, we prepare the package a lender, investor or auditor will ask for. For government contractors, we add contract cost tracking, indirect rates and DCAA readiness.

Bookkeeping records the transactions. Financial accounting asks whether those records add up to a true picture: are revenue and expenses in the right period, are accruals booked, do the balance sheet accounts reconcile. Then it turns that into reporting and analysis. A company can have tidy bookkeeping and still not know if it's profitable.

At minimum: an income statement, a balance sheet and a cash flow statement, every month. Beyond that, it depends on the business. A services firm may care most about utilization and receivables aging. A contractor needs margins by contract and indirect rate trends. A company with a credit line needs covenant tracking. We build the report package around the decisions you actually make.

Because the most expensive mistakes are the ones nobody notices for a year. Basic controls like separating who approves a payment from who sends it, reconciling every account monthly and limiting system access catch errors and discourage fraud. They should fit the size of the company. A 20 person firm doesn't need the same controls as a public company, but it does need some.
